The Trailer For ‘Whitney. “Can I Be Me”‘ Will Leave You In Awe

whitney

Whitney. ‘Can I Be Me’, the comprehensive documentary on the late Whitney Houston is set to debut on Showtime in August. The film, which is directed by Nick Broomfield and Rudi Dolezal, will offer a raw and uncensored look at Houston, exploring the impact her life and death had on the people around her and the world of music. In 1999, Dolezal captured exclusive footage of the songstress on what would be her last ever successful world tour.

In addition to the footage which captures intimate moments between Houston, her then-husband Bobby Brown and her dear friend Robyn Crawford, the film explores the one thing that haunted the singer throughout her life. Even though she had made millions of dollars, had more consecutive number ones than The Beatles and was recognized as having one of the greatest voices of all time, she still couldn’t do what she wanted to do, either professionally or in her personal life.

Shadow and Act reviewed the film at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year saying, “…the interviews with everyone from Barbara Walters and Diana Sawyer, the footage from the 2005 Bravo show, Being Bobby Brown, and the 1999 tour footage all give us a composite of who Whitney Houston truly was.” Watch the trailer below.

The I Will Always Love You, vocalist, struggled for many years with drug addiction until she finally succumbed to her addiction in 2012 at the age of 48.

Whitney. ‘Can I Be Me’ will premiere on Saturday, August 26 at 9 PM ET on Showtime. It will air exclusively on Showtime, the network’s authentication service Showtime ANYTIME and the Showtime stand-alone streaming service.
