Travis Scott to Join Maroon 5 for Super Bowl Halftime Show

BENICASSIM, SPAIN - JUL 19: Travis Scott (rapper) performs in concert at FIB Festival on July 19, 2018 in Benicassim, Spain.

The NFL was hard pressed to find an act to join Maroon 5 for the 2019 Super Bowl Halftime Show. Due to the league’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick, several A-list artists turned down the gig, including Rihanna, Cardi B, OutKast and JAY-Z.

“Sicko Mode” spitter Travis Scott, however, has agreed to join the “This Love” collective on-stage for the Atlanta halftime performance, according to TMZ. The producer has yet to comment on the move, but plenty of his fans and followers have already expressed their confusion. Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill asked why Scott would take the gig when he’s already extremely successful.

While many may not support Scott’s decision, Atlanta producer Jermaine Dupri could possibly be in his corner, as he was also criticized for agreeing to work with the NFL during Super Bowl weekend.

“Boycotts and marches don’t seem like they work to me, I’m sorry,” Dupri told TMZ Sports. “I think they should send a message while they’re onstage, take advantage of your platform.”

Dupri added that he respects those who choose to boycott but he does not believe it’s an effective way to bring about real change. “The more people speak on it, the more they talk about it, then the more people feel like it’s something they have to address. I feel like people ignore boycotts.”
