The United States Postal Service (USPS) shared a physical photo of the latest stamp in their Music Icons series, which featured R&B legend Marvin Gaye on Tuesday.

“Pictured here in front of Washington D.C.’s @howardtheatre, where he graced the stage, our stamp features a portrait of Gaye inspired by historic photographs,” a statement on USPS Instagram read.

In November 2018, the postal service announced the prominent subjects that would be added to the Forever Stamp collection including two-time Grammy winner, tap dancer Gregory Hines and poet Walt Whitman.

The USPS highlighted Gaye’s contribution to music in their post. “With hits like ‘Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing,’ ‘I Heard It Through the Grapevine,’ and ‘Too Busy Thinking About My Baby,’ Gaye helped shape the buoyant sound of the Motown record label in the 1960s,” the post continued. “Released in 1971, his expansive masterwork, ‘What’s Going On,’ is widely considered one of the greatest recordings in the history of American popular music.”

Art director Derry Noyes designed the stamp pane, which resembles a vintage 45 rpm record sleeve with original art by Kadir Nelson.  One side of the pane will include the stamps, a blurb a bout Gaye’s legacy with a record seemingly poking out at the top of the sleeve. The icon’s logo and another photograph will appear on the backside of the pane.

The Marvin Gaye stamp will be released on April 2.
