Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis has her eyes set a BIG goal. Through JuVee Productions, her integrated film, television and digital production company with hubby Julius Tennon, she moves with the intent to also create and fund opportunities within Hollywood.

The duo is now embarking on a financial campaign in efforts to raise $250 million that will go toward expanding their production company to reach a global market for development, production and distribution of diverse and inclusive film and digital content.

In a press release, Tennon expressed, “the shift in storytelling should be inclusive and we aim to make it a reality.”

A sharp turn from the recent outpour to diversifying content, talks of inclusiveness is now heading conversation and making noise.

“That’s really the goal in Hollywood and other prominent industries: to be included and “have a seat at the table,” Oprah said in a 2016 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

JuVee Productions recent films included Custody, a courtroom drama that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2016 and made its way to Lifetime last week, and Night Shift, a short film that debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January and continues to make the film festival rounds.

Up next comes the adaptation of The Personal Story of Rachel Dupree, which stars Davis. The feature centers on the “little-known history of African American homesteaders and gives voice to an extraordinary heroine who embodies the spirit that built America.”

Davis is also slated to star in a biopic on Barbara Jordan, the first Southern Black woman elected to the United States House of Representatives.

On the television front, The Zipcoders will debut on ABC. The series is set in 1968 and focuses on a group of Black teens who form a rock ‘n’ roll band with hopes to be like The Beatles; and there’s a deal in place with HBO for the Harriet Tubman film.

JuVee productions is on the move when it comes to content. Their global fund campaign will further help to distribute various projects as well as develop, finance and produce a load of others.
