In September 2017, actor Sanaa Lathan revealed that she went bald for her starring role in Netflix’s film adaptation of Trisha R. Thomas’ best-selling novel, Nappily Ever After. On Thursday, the streaming platform released the first trailer including the liberating scene, in which Lathan’s character shaves off her hair.
The film is about Violet Jones, who appears to have a “perfect” life until her hair is ruined during a salon accident. Her love life and career begin to unravel leading Jones to realize how wrapped up she was in her hair and living an unfulfilling life.
Nappily Ever After also stars Lyriq Bent and Ricky Whittle; Lynn Whitfield and Ernie Hudson have supporting roles. It premieres on Sept. 21.
