Wendy Williams has been an open book when it comes to her past addictions, at times even tearing up on her hit daytime talk show while discussing those dark moments with her audience.
Williams most recently spoke to ET about her battle with cocaine addiction, saying she began the bad habit during her radio days.
“I was a functioning addict, though,” she shared. “I report to work on time, and I’d walk in and all my co-workers, including my bosses, would know but instead of firing me, you see, I would wear my headphones and arrogantly walk in the studio and dare them to fire me because I was making ratings.”
The media maven went on to say, “[A] functioning addict has several alarm clocks, you’re organized. It’s a miracle I was able to stop.”
The television personality is now using her own experience to help others beat their addictions. Partnering with the Hunter Foundation, Williams has launched Be Here, a national campaign designed to combat substance abuse and drug addiction.
She and husband, Kevin Hunter, also hosted the Wendy Williams Hunter Birthday Give Back Gala last night at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Proceeds will “support youths and families suffering from addiction and substance abuse,” according to the Hunter Foundation website.
Host Torrei Hart shared this video clip from the gala. Check it out below.
