Will Smith, Beyoncé, and Issa Rae are among the nominees for the 79th Annual Golden Globes Awards, which celebrates the best in television and film, on Monday, CNN reports. Hip hop icon Snoop Dogg had the honor of revealing the nominations.
Smith received the Best Actor in a Motion Picture—Drama nomination for the film King Richard. Beyonce nabbed a nomination for Best Original Song—Motion Picture for her song "Be Alive" from Smith's film. Rae was nominated in Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series—Musical or Comedy category for her HBO series Insecure.
Some media outlets including NBC, which had previously aired the Golden Globes, opted not to participate in the nomination event because of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s (HFPA) diversity issues.
In October, HFPA announced its "most diverse" class of new members. The organization also stated that it would go forward with the show—with or without a broadcast home or nominees in attendance at the event. Since then the ceremony has found a home. The Golden Globe Awards show will air January 9, 2020 on CW Network.
