Jennifer Hudson

The highly-anticipated Winnie Mandela biopic "Winnie," starring Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson, has been in the works for quite some time now, having shown at recent film festivals across the globe. Adding to the film's buzz, the theatrical trailer for the film has been released, showing actor Terrence Howard as Nelson Mandela to Hudson's Winnie. Directed by Darrell Root, "Winnie" will center on major events in Winnie's life, following her from childhood to Nelson Mandela's incarceration as well as her own in solitary confinement.

Many individuals, South Africans and Americans included, expressed concern and skepticism once the decision to cast Hudson had been revealed. Included in the controversy were claims of inauthenticity and Hollywood's tendency to recycle the same celebrities for Black roles.Hudson, who will be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year, is expected to garner more than a few nominations during the next awards season.
