In honor of Women's History Month, EBONY kicks off our Epic Black Image curation series with Black women photographers. They say a good photographer knows where to stand. She also knows how to take a stand by creating self-defining, self-loving work.
Adama Delphine Fawundu photography and multimedia installations have been exhibited coast-to-coast from the Studio Museum in Harlem to the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco. "Black Like Blue," a 2018 self-portrait, was shot while traveling in Argentina. Although African descendants have had a presence there dating back to the slave trade, Fawundu, born in Sierra Leone, found little evidence of that history. "I travel to experience and learn about Black people in different parts of the world. I was disappointed. I created this photo in honor and respect of Afro-Argentines—past, present and future."
