Erykah Badu is known for her eclectic style, signature sound, and ability to be your favorite rapper’s favorite muse. But while the Dallas native has become a cultural icon since bursting on the scene with her debut album, Baduizm, back in 1997, her biggest joy is being a mother.
In a past interview, Badu once explained, “I don’t even know career without children, without babies,” and while she’s managed to shield them from the pitfalls so many other celebrity children have fallen into, as her kids have gotten older, the star has allowed them to shine on her social media channels.
The mama and doula has periodically posted videos of her children singing and have a grand ole time with their mother, but whenever Badu shares clips of Puma–her middle daughter–singing, her fans are blown away.
Earlier today, Badu shared a brief video of Puma singing into the camera with the endearing caption: “Improvement on my design.”

This isn’t the first time Badu’s showed pff her tween daughter’s talents. Late last year the singer shared a few clips of Puma belting out Rihanna’s “Stay” while casually spinning on a swing in their home. Fans were immediately taken with the 12 year old’s voice, and it’s easy to see why.

While it’s unclear if Badu is grooming her daughter for a career in the music biz, it’s nice to see the singer nurturing Puma’s talents, even if it’s just for fun.
