In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter (THR), actor Alec Baldwin shared impolitic statements about President Donald Trump and his relationship with Black people.
Periodically, Baldwin does a spot-on impression of Trump on Saturday Night Live, which garnered him the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2017.
During the sit-down with THR journalist Lacey Rose, a Black man named Tyrone allegedly ran up to Baldwin on a New York City street. Not only was he excited to see the celebrity, but he also took a moment to express gratitude for how well the 30 Rock actor has portrayed No. 45.
“Duuuude, you do that Donald Trump thing real good. Real good,” Tyrone exclaimed.
After the exchange, Baldwin opened up to Rose about how Black people love him and go crazy every time they see him. He said:
“I don’t know how to say this and I don’t want to get it wrong either, because everything is a minefield of bombs going off, but ever since I played Trump, black people love me. They love me. Everywhere I go, black people go crazy. I think it’s because they’re most afraid of Trump.”
The 60-year-old may have realized how his statement may be viewed as problematic and tried to backtrack. In reference to the Trump administration, he continued, “I’m not going to paint every African-American person with the same brush, but a significant number of them are sitting there going, ‘This is going to be bad for black folks.'”
But no one person can be the consensus on how Black people feel, especially not a privileged White actor who is known for bigoted interactions. In 2013, Baldwin allegedly called a Black New York Post photographer racial slurs. Later that year, in an encounter caught on video, Baldwin called a photographer a homophobic slur.
In comparison, Baldwin sounded much like Trump with his opinions. Take a look at how Black Twitter responded to the actor’s claims:

Alec Baldwin is so method, he has become Trump in his real life. I'm not sure if I'm more disgusted or impressed. https://t.co/1ULVFovmJf
