President Trump dismissed FBI Director, James Comey, on Tuesday.

The New York Times reports that the move came on the recommendation of Attorney General, Jeff Sessions. White House Spokesman, Sean Spicer, confirmed the news on Tuesday.

“While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau,” Trump said in a letter addressed to Comey Tuesday. “It is essential that we find new leadership for the FBI that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission.”

In March, it was announced that the FBI was investigating into links between the Trump campaign and Moscow during election season. The probe was reportedly part of a broader investigation of Russian interference in last year’s presidential election.

In a separate letter released at the White House, Spicer said that Trump told Comey that he was “terminated and removed from office.”

“The FBI is one of our nation’s most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement,” Trump reportedly said in the statement.
