Former The Voice contestant Janice Freeman, 33, died unexpectedly this month from a pulmonary embolism, according to The Blast. Her battle with lupus was listed as a contributing factor on her death certificate, the site said.
Freeman reportedly suffered from a severe case of pneumonia, and a blood clot subsequently traveled to her heart on March 3, CNN said. The singer’s husband, Dion, attempted to perform CPR, but she died after being transported to a hospital.
A fan favorite on the NBC singing competition, Freeman was coached by Miley Cyrus and was a proud member of her team. Her candid and uplifting journey of successfully battling cervical cancer and struggle to fight lupus left fans of the show inspired.
She developed a close rapport with her coach, and they maintained their relationship once she was eliminated after making it to the show's top 11.
Cyrus, who shared an emotional post after news of Freeman’s death was confirmed, performed at a tribute in honor of the late singer.
