Fox has announced the cancellation of its paranormal comedy series, Ghosted, starring Craig Robinson and Adam Scott after only one season, reports Deadline. The single-camera comedy will be pulled from the air effective immediately due to low ratings.

The series is described as a comedic X-Files. The show followed an ex-cop (Robinson) and scientist (Scott) after they are recruited by an organization called The Bureau Underground to investigate “unexplained” activity that is occurring in Los Angeles. Ghosted premiered to 3.6 million viewers on Oct. 1 as a lead-out from The Simpsons. It became the first program to build on the viewership of the animated series in more than three years. The steam for the show began to dwindle as negative reviews piled up.

The show was first pulled from the schedule in April after nine of its 16 episode first season aired. The remaining seven started to air on June 10 but deliveries, as with most summer series, drew in low numbers.

Ghosted is not the only show Fox has canceled this year. The networked axed all of its single-camera, live-action comedies including Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Last Man on Earth and The Mick.

Since as early as the 1950s American television shows have been known to be revived on other networks including Leave It to Beaver, Designing Women and Alf. More recently, Arrested Development, a former Fox sitcom was picked up by Netflix in 2011 after six years after its cancellation.

With so much content being delivered substantial numbers are an essential factor in what shows networks keep on their lineup. However, there is still hope due to its cult following that Ghosted, or any other canceled show will return from the dead and be revived by another network or streaming platform.
