Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade shared news of the birth of their first daughter last week, revealing that they welcomed the beaming baby girl via surrogate.
NBA baller Wade took to Instagram yesterday to reveal the newborn’s name, sharing that he had her name tattooed on his shoulders while in China on “paternity leave.”
“#TBT Goes back to that one night in China when i decided to get my daughters name tattooed on me. Kaavia James Union Wade! #paternityleave.”
A fan then asked why they chose the middle name James, and Union responded that Kaavia was named after the actress’s godfather.
“Great question. We wanted my family represented in her name. My godfather is my Uncle James Glass. She is named after him.. and then Union… thats.. ya know.. me.”

Although Union is a proud stepmother to her husband’s children, this is her first biological child, and she’s fully embracing every aspect of being a new mommy.
“We are sleepless and delirious but so excited to share that, our miracle baby, arrived last night via surrogate,” revealed the Wades last week. “11/7 will forever be etched in our hearts as the most loveliest of all the lovely days. Welcome to the party sweet girl,” the two wrote on their social media accounts.
