A Texas high school football coach who is believed to be responsible for a game referee getting tackled by members of his squad no longer has his position.
Mack Breed, who was the assistant football coach at John Jay High School, asked players to hit the official during a game, according to statements the school district has received in connection to the incident captured on video.
"Coach Breed made verbal statements after the game to some of his colleagues and to his head coach where he did indicate in various ways that he had directed students to make some kind of contact with the official," said Brian Woods, the superintendent of Northside Independent School District, which oversees John Jay.
Woods also said that Breed later changed his story. He is not expected to appear before a committee, which is looking into possible punishment. Breed has also not spoken publicly about the incident.
