Fliers reading “It’s Okay To Be White” have been appearing in varied locations throughout the country.
The phrase even began circulating in hashtag form on Twitter. The idea for it was first posted to anonymous social forum 4chan — the site was most recently in the news after a user threatened a mass shooting at Howard University.
The Oct. 31 post encouraged participants to post the flyers on school campuses and other locations while dressed in Halloween garb for anonymity. The signs have since been discovered at schools in Michigan, Ohio, Maryland, Louisiana, Minnesota and other states.

A few of the signs have been placed atop “Black Lives Matter” signs. Since the original posting about the signage, another 4chan post was created to emphasize the “guidelines” around dispersing the flyers.
Public officials have denounced the signage and its divisive motive and many of the signs have been removed.
