J. White spoke to EBONY's Joshua David on the red carpet of the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday about his J. White Did It production credits and the Black community.

White produced chart-topping hits for Cardi B including her breakout single, "Bodak Yellow," "I Like It" and "Money." He told David that musicianship is "hella important."

"I'm just as loud as the artist on stage because we make the music behind them to keep them clubs banging and to bring that good energy," the producer said.

As an African-American musician, he revealed his effort to support Black brands. In regard to Gucci's blackface controversy, he said, "As Black people, we have to learn how to work together and support each other the right way."
