Captured in Jamaica in June of 2010, Michael Christopher “Dudus” Coke inherited his life of crime from his father — the leader of the notorious Shower Posse during the 1980’s cocaine wars. The 43-year-old, who lorded over the West Kingston area and was known for his ruthless killings and abuse to women, faces up to 23 years in prison for drug trafficking, gun smuggling, racketeering, and other charges. Extradited to the U.S., Coke’s fate is now up to a Manhattan judge.
The drug lord’s reputation is a bit of a paradox with some claiming he did positive work in the community, while others—who remain anonymous for their safety—paint him as a cold-blooded killer. Coke pleaded guilty last year and will be sentenced this week; prosecutors do not plan to be lenient and hope he gets a maximum term.
Considering his rap sheet and the fear he still wields over many communities, should Coke ever see the light of day again?
