Blerds and sci-fi fans are rejoicing at the news that the classic Attack the Block is getting a sequel. This marks a reunion between writer and director Joe Cornish and star John Boyega.

In the original film, Boyega plays Moses, a young South London ruffian who, along with his friends and neighbors, have to defend their tower block from alien invaders. While there is no word about plot or additional cast announcements, Dr. Who’s Jodie Whitaker and Shaun of the Dead’s Nick Frost would be most likely to return.

There are a few ways that Attack the Block 2 can go, but if you haven’t seen the film then no spoilers shall be given here.

The first film became a cult hit and internet darling after its SXSW showing in 2011. The movie also proved to be the breakout role for John Boyega before he would go on to lead the Star Wars franchise in the sequel trilogy.

As for director Joe Cornish, his time since the original Attack the Block found him co-writing the script for Marvel’s Ant-Man with Edgard Wright in 2015, but the project was turned over to Peyton Reed after Wright left due to creative differences. Cornish wrote and directed a 2019 movie called The Kid Who Would Be King and is also signed on to adapt Mark Millar’s comic series Starlight.
