Jurnee Smollett-Bell snagged EBONY’s Women’s History Month cover and took readers on a #FantasticJurnee through her life and commitment to the activism. Though many first fell in love with the actress through her childhood roles on Full House, Cosby and in Eve’s Bayou, these days she can be seen literally breaking chains and helping others get free on the WGN America hit drama UndergroundThe show, and her character of Rosalee, were perfect fits for the actress.

“Rosalee was underestimated, and I think that’s one of the [ways] I can relate to her. That’s something I’ve struggled with my entire life—people underestimating me,” Smollett-Bell explained in EBONY’s March cover story. “But also there’s a fire inside of her that sometimes she doesn’t even understand. There’s this inner strength that she has and in Season Two; it’s almost like a manic strength, another superwoman strength.”

During the photo shoot, the wife and new mom shined in front of the camera before talking to EBONY about some of the women who’ve inspired her most.
