Kanye West has allegedly been so inspired by his Sunday Service concert series that he is considering ministering his own congregation.
For the last few months, West and a predominately Black choir have been performing renditions of hit gospel songs and blending them with popular music. The rapper/producer brought the set to a crowd of 50,000 at Coachella last weekend, and now he wants to add some permanence to the routine.
"He is extremely passionate about his faith and wants to share it more regularly with people,” a source told People. "He spends a lot of time studying and praying, and wants to share his journey."
Along with the "healing power of music" West believes that God will intervene and people through their suffering. By creating a space for the two he wants to help people rise above the things that break them.
“He has talked about starting his own church, and what exactly that would be,” the source added. “It wouldn’t be the traditional, 3-hymns-and-a-sermon thing. Instead, it would be a way to point people to Jesus through the arts and through a community of people who love and care for each other. He also wants his kids to be raised in faith, and the best way for him to do that is to live out his faith.”
A slew of famous people including Chance the Rapper, Donald Glover and Lizzo were on hand for the Sunday Service. Others such as Natasha Rothwell criticized West for using the Black church as a way to sell merch following his support of President Donald Trump and his comments on slavery.
