Comedian Katt Williams, in town for a Friday appearance at the Oracle Arena, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon Wednesday night in downtown Oakland, according to police.

An 18-year-old Berkeley man was hit in the head with a bottle and taken to a hospital after the incident, which happened about 8 p.m. in a tour vehicle police said was parked at the Courtyard Marriott, 988 Broadway.

Police were first called about a man bleeding from the head in the 900 block of Broadway. The man told police what had happened and police went looking for Williams. He was not in the vehicle but officers found him about a half-hour later near a nightclub in the 200 block of Washington Street. Police said he was cooperative when he was taken into custody.

Police were trying to determine the relationship between the man and Williams. The man who said he was hit with the bottle was not immediately named. Police said they were initially told the man was with some other people who may have been invited to the tour vehicle before the confrontation happened.

Williams was being interviewed by investigators Thursday morning and had not been booked into jail.

Hotel officials did not immediately comment.
