On Monday night, Kevin Hart apologized once again for past homophobic jokes and tweets during his SiriusXM podcast, Straight from the Hart.

“Once again, Kevin Hart apologizes for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBT community,” he said.

Hart stepped down as the host of the 2019 Oscars last month after the offensive remarks from 2009-2011 resurfaced on social media. During the podcast episode, he also said he was no longer interested in hosting the Academy Awards ceremony.

The additional apology comes after the comedian appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, on which he said he felt attacked. He not only addressed the jokes before but also removed them from his comedy routines.

DeGeneres, a trailblazer in the LGBT community, defended Hart and revealed that she called the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to try to get the Night School star’s hosting gig back.

Despite the positive press, several Black members of the LGBT community, including CNN’s Don Lemon, criticized the talk show host for defending Hart.

“He can help change homophobia in the Black community, something Kevin’s old Twitter jokes addressed but in the wrong way,” Lemon said last week on CNN Tonight.

The CNN host also called for Hart to become an LGBT advocate to help facilitate change, which the comedian addressed on his podcast as well.

“If the fight from the LGBTQ community is equality … I’m riding with you. I understand it. But in the fight for equality, that means that there has to be an acceptance for change. If you don’t want to accept people for their change then where are you trying to get to the equal part?” Hart asked.

He expressed that many people in the community have become “bullish” and want more than an apology. “Don Lemon goes on CNN and goes, ‘You can fix this, become an ally.’ That’s not my life dream.”

Hart said Monday’s discussion would be the last time he addresses the controversy.
