The man who killed more than 50 people and injured over 500 in a Las Vegas shooting Sunday may have been targeting a music festival featuring Chance The Rapper.

The Daily Beast reports that according to a senior law enforcement source, Stephen Paddock, 64, may have initially set his attention on the “Life Is Beautiful” music festival in Vegas the weekend of Sept. 23. Chance and Lorde headlined the event.

The source, which the publication described as not being “directly involved in the investigation,” said Paddock rented a series of condos overlooking the festival.

“The source suggested that Paddock may have lost his nerve or simply changed his plans and checked into the Mandalay Bay Hotel on Sept. 28,” the Daily Beast reported.

At least 59 people were killed and 527 others injured in the shooting. Police say Paddock killed himself following a brief confrontation with officers.

Police recovered 23 weapons, including multiple rifles that had scopes, and several pounds of ammonium nitrate, a material used to make bombs, in his vehicle, officials said.

Investigators still do not have a motive.
