Star, the music-themed drama executive produced and co-created by Lee Daniels and Tom Donaghy, has been renewed for a third season by Fox, according to Variety.

The series follows a girl group trio as they try to navigate the music business while dealing with issues from their past. The singers of the group are portrayed by Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny and Brittany O’Grady. The large ensemble cast also includes Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt, Luke James, Amiyah Scott, Quincy Brown, Stephen Dorff, Miss Lawrence and Michael Michele.

The second season of Star averages 4.17 million total live+same day viewers and 1.33 million in the 18-49 demographic.

Daniels’ also got his first Fox drama, Empire,  renewed for another season. The show which stars Taraji P. Henson and Terrance Howard is a sister series to Star and had a crossover event this past season.
