Yesterday was the 2019 Oscars ceremony, where our girl Danai Gurira looked every inch the African queen that she is. Her hair guru of the evening, celebrity hairstylist Larry Sims, complemented her stunning, strapless Brock Collection gown with regal-looking Nefertiti-style braids and a gilded hairband.

But what truly captivated us was her divine golden beat, so we grilled her makeup artist, Tym Buacharern, for the full deets.

Below, he gives us a detailed step-by-step on how he created her golden goddess look for the 2019 Academy Awards ceremony using the budget-friendly drugstore brand BLK/OPL.

-The key to a flawless beat is a smooth base. Buacharern applied BLK/OPL True Color Skin Perfecting Stick Foundation SPF 15 in Black Walnut to   Gurira’s face.
-Then, with an angled brush, using light strokes to fill in sparse areas, he applied BLK/OPL ColorSplurge Brow Shaper Kit in Deep Brown to outline and fill in her eyebrows.
-Next, with an eyeshadow brush, he applied the gold and pink shades from the BLK/OPL ColorSplurge Eyeshadow Quads in Sahara to her lids for a subtle glow.
-Then, he rimmed her eyes with BLK/OPL ColorSplurge Automatic Eye Lining Pencil in Licorice and used the Super Volumizing Mascara to add a fluttery boost to her long lashes.
– To further highlight and contour Gurira’s stately features, Buacharern used the brand’s True Color Illuminating Stick in Amber Lights along her brow bone, bridge of her nose and cheeks.
– He also dabbed a bit of Bronze Glow on her cheeks for a slight sheen.
-Lastly, he finished Gurira’s radiant look by applying BLK/OPL ColorSplurge Patent Lips in Copper Tone to the center of her lips and worked the subtly glistening gloss to the outer edges to emphasize her full pout.
