Elderly Woman Loses 120 Lbs Walking in Her One-Bedroom Apartment

Jessica Slaughter, an 86-year-old St. Louis native, has an incredible weight loss story. She lost 120 pounds by changing her diet and taking 3,000 daily steps through her apartment.

According to kdsk.com, Slaughter had struggled with her weight since she was in elementary school; throughout her life, she was obese and prediabetic.

“Even as a kid in Mississippi, I was always the fattest kid in the class. I got teased a lot,” she told the local news station. “I didn’t know how to stop eating. Fried chicken. Bacon and eggs. Desserts, like cakes and pies.”

But when she was in her 70s, Slaughter stopped eating meat, became a vegan and began walking back and forth from her living room to her kitchen. Now at 86, she is the healthiest she’s been in her life.

“I went to my doctor for a checkup. He told me my health was better than his,” Slaughter said. “I was a borderline diabetic. I’m free of all that, and I know it came from my way that I eat and exercise.”

Her granddaughter recently told her to get a Fitbit, a daily activity tracker, to help with monitoring her morning steps.

Slaughter wants fellow elderly people to know they can also make the change to a healthier lifestyle with small life changes.

“I just want seniors to know just because we’ve gotten a certain age, we don’t have to stop living,” she said. “I want to tell them that there’s a better way of life if they choose.”
