A Missouri Applebee’s located at Independence Center mall has closed its doors a few days after firing three employees as a result of racial profiling.

A spokesperson for the establishment told 41 Action News the restaurant has officially shut down, with the company extending job offers to employees at other locations.

There was no specific reason given for the shut down.

“I was told to come into work Thursday morning in uniform,” said Teryn Johnson who has worked at Applebee’s for 30 years. “I got there at 9:30 a.m. and noticed the big trucks were out there removing the sign. I knew that was a sign.”

Last weekend, a Black customer took to Facebook to complain about an instance of racial profiling. As a result, three workers were fired after an investigation by Applebee’s on Monday.

According to a police report on the incident, the manager said “there were two females in the restaurant that [were] currently seated and [were] responsible for failing to pay for their meal on a prior occasion.”

The women were approached by a restaurant employee and a mall officer and accused them of dining and dashing.
