Is there anything more delightful than a creamy avocado to top off a crunchy tortilla chip, taco, or even salad? Growing up in California, I consumed avocados more than apples. I still delight in waiting for their ripe green skin to darken then give way to a tender center. In addition to just tasting damn good, avocados are also full of health benefits, including dietary fiber, healthy fats, and Vitamin A, B, C, E, & K. Traditional guacamole is a great party starter, but there are a number of ways to take the classic dip up a notch. Here are 3:
Bacon Tomato Guacamole
Ingredients:
- 4 ripe avocados, mashed
- 3 strips of bacon, cooked and chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 2 tsp. of hot sauce
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. pepper
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Mix and season to taste. Serve with tortilla chips or add to your favorite salad to make it a true BLT!
Mango Guacamole
Ingredients:
- 4 Ripe Avocados, mashed
- ¼ red onion, finely chopped
- 1 ripe mango, chopped into small pieces
- 1 tsp. of salt
- 1 tsp. of cumin
- ¼ bunch of cilantro, chopped
- 1 lime, juiced
- Optional: one jalapeño, chopped
Directions:
Combine all ingredients and season to taste. Top with jalapeño for extra kick.
Greek Style Guacamole
Ingredients:
- 4 ripe avocados, chopped coarsely
- ¼ red onion, finely chopped
- 2 oz. pitted kalamata olives
- 3 oz. crumbled feta cheese
- 2 tbs fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp of freshly chopped oregano
- 2 oz. chopped cherry tomatoes
- 1 tsp. of sea salt
Directions:
Combine lemon juice with chopped avocados. Add in other ingredients and stir gently.
