Detroit is thriving, and so is the once failing automotive industry. This week, General Motors invited EBONY.com to the unveiling of their new 2018 Buick Regal GS — it was a thrilling experience.

After a dinner and stay at Detroit’s new Foundation Hotel in the heart of the newly revived downtown, we were shuttled out to Milford, Michigan which is home to General Motors’ Proving Grounds. There we witnessed the world debut of the 2018 Buick Regal GS. After a welcome from Duncan Aldred the Vice President of Global Buick and GMC, we hopped into the driver’s seat and went zooming down the roadways in the sporty vehicle. With lush leather seats, a sleek Sportback design and 51 more horsepower than it’s predecessor — the 2018 Regal GS proves that Buick is all about doing things with a twist.

“If you look at Regal from a lineup perspective, you have three cars that do three things very well. You get a full suite of technologies in the car. You get all of the [luxury] that Buick brings with it. I think fundamentally most people are looking for a quiet, comfortable ride,” explained Buick Marketing Director Sam Russell. “Most Buick’s come with quiet tuning and connectivity, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. We are always stuck in traffic. A lot of people appreciate if that time is quiet and comfortable and you can actually think about everything that’s going on while you’re stopped. It makes stressful urban life a little less stressful.”

It was certainly a stress-free experience for us. The modern luxury brand has prices much more attainable than some of its higher-end competitors. With more power and more gears, the 2018 Buick Regal GS is a pretty sweet deal and an even better ride.
