Online course instructors are 94 percent more likely to respond to comments on discussion forum made by students who are white males, a new study reports.

The experiment, “Bias in Online Classes: Evidence from a Field Experiment,” was conducted by researchers at Stanford University, Vanderbilt University and the University of California, Irvine.

It found that students with names that appeared to sound like they would belong to a white male were overwhelmingly more likely to get their comments answered by instructors than other students.
