Toast To Earth Day with ‘Green’ Wines!

This Sunday, April 22nd is Earth Day–a day in which people across the planet reflect upon the ways in which we impact and sustain our environment. While we don’t ever need a reason to drink, consider marking this year’s observation with a glass of environmentally responsible wine!

Lapostolle, a premium winery in Chile, is committed to sustainability. Owned by the Marnier Lapostolle family, the company has been accredited by the German-based environmental certification company CERES – Certification of Environmental Standards, which declared Lapostolle “100% organically managed”.  By employing organic vineyard management, biodynamic practices to reductions in carbon emissions and other earth-friendly practices, the winery has been able to compost an average of 700 tons of grape skins and stems each year, save and reuse water, conserve significant amounts of energy in cooling processes and has saved more than 320 tons of glass per year by selecting lighter bottles.

On to the fun part. Lapostolle’s Cuvée Alexandre Syrah Las Kuras 2009 ($25) is the winery’s first wine to be produced with 100% organic grapes! The slightly-sweet syrah has a bold flavor, with notes of blackberry and dark chocolate.

Also consider Lapostolle Casa Sauvignon Blanc ($12), a crisp white wine with floral and citrusy flavors and Casa Carmenere ($12), a bold red with a spicy bouquet and smooth finish.
