Whether you’re solo traveling around the world or on baecation, it can be hard trying to be eco-friendly. We become so relaxed that we tend to forget turning off the lights before leaving, leave the water running, or forget to recycle our waste. These minor actions have a major impact on the countries and communities we visit. Hilton is making it their corporate responsibility to make sure their 5,300+ properties meet the highest standards when it comes to globally promoting environmental preservation and social involvement.



Hilton’s #TravelWithPurpose campaign is devoted to cutting the company’s environmental footprint in half & double its social impact by 2030. The environmental goals include reducing carbon emission by 61%, reducing water by 50%, reducing energy and lastly, reducing the use of plastic straw and bottles. The social impact goals include doubling investment in youth programs and doubling the amount spent with local, small and minority-owned suppliers. This mission might seem like a lot but Hilton is already making big strides when it comes down to their new Conrad property in Cartagena, Colombia.

The Conrad Cartagena is a contemporary “destination within a destination” that recently opened in December 2017. It is known for their 7 authentic restaurants, 4 swimming pools overlooking the Caribbean Sea and their 18-hole TPC golf course that also overlooks and sits on the Caribbean Sea. The Conrad added an onsite soap recycling center and 1800 solar panel units that help preserve 20% of the energy.

The team members of the hotel make sure their guests feel apart of their sustainable travel movement by encouraging them to use biodegradable straws and recycling soaps from guests.

The interior decor of the hotel and rooms/suites are filled with artwork and crafts from local artists. The architecture

is inspired by Cartagena’s Walled City, preserving the Spanish colonial style. The team members make it imperative that guests have the best culinary experience by providing them with fresh poultry, produce and seafood from local farmers and fishermen.

They also recommend guests to the best locally owned restaurants and shops, so they are investing their money into Cartagena’s small businesses.

 The architecture of the Walled City Hilton is already paving the way for sustainable travel by being the first hospitality company to release science-based targets for its greenhouse gas emissions.

Through the #TravelWithPurpose campaign, they are implementing small social and environmental actions for guests that will advance communities in a major way. Since 2008, Hilton has reduced carbon emission output by 30% which almost fulfills the 2030 goal to reduce carbon emissions by 61%, and it’s not even 2020 yet.

 

 

Hilton is ahead of game, so now it’s time for us as jet-setters and consumers to #TravelWithPurpose by…….

•Turning off the lights, TV and air conditioning/heat when you leave the room

•Unplugging chargers when not in use

•Being mindful of your shower time, to reduce water consumption

• Using Digital Key on the Hilton Honors App, rather than a plastic room key
