This past Friday, April 30th, marked the 29th birthday of the worldwide phenomenon known as Travis Scott. To celebrate, the Houston rapper collaborated with Nike to release the Air Jordan 6 x British Khaki sneaker. Originally marked up at $250, this shoe—with its beige colorway and pops of bright orange, glow-in-the-dark soles, and Cactus Jack branding on the lace lock and right heel—sold out within in a matter of minutes.
Fast clicking fans even nabbed the highly coveted versions of the shoe in toddler and little kid sizes.
While Nike’s SNKRS app is completely devoid of the cargo-style kicks (and its accompanying apparel collection), multiple sizes are beginning to hit resale sites — at majorly marked-up prices, which comes as no surprise.
“To celebrate Travis Scott’s birthday? Buy his shoes at resale prices that are shamefully high,” Twitter user Jamie Kessler tweeted.
This marks the second time Scott has remixed the Air Jordan 6 silhouette. Two years ago in 2019, the Astroworld rapper released an “olive” version that also sold out moments after it was released online. That move, plus lucrative deals with Sony Playstation and McDonald’s, turned Scott into a global brand whisperer and earned him $100 million in 2020.
It is proof that Travis Scott has become Corporate America’s latest obsession, one that has guaranteed positive results—as exemplified by the release of “Cacti,” an agave spiked seltzer that also sold out and became an in-demand item for all things developed by the South Park rapper.
