To have such a competitive culture, there’s actually little understanding about what competition is supposed to be or mean. Your competition, no matter how good or bad, is a placeholder for the best that comes out of you. So if you’re consumed with being better than anyone this week, then prepare to suck. It’s not the cosmos punishing you or hating you. It’s not that personal, Cancer. I learned this lesson once playing a theatre game. I kept “beating” my partner in the game, without really trying. When she was asked how she kept losing, she said, “I was just trying to do better than Sam.” When asked about my experience, I said, “I was just trying to play the game the best I could.” In love or in longing for success, don’t get distracted by the Other. You’ll feel more like you’ve hit a brick wall.
