“When I discover who I am, I’ll be free!” – Ralph Ellison

Confession: I am a Sagittarius (wink and smile).

Sagittarius season (November 23-December 21) is upon us, and I must warn you. If someone born under this sign has caught your attention, buckle up because it is certainly going to be a ride to remember! But if you’re one for routine, home life and couch potato tendencies, you may want to consider running in the opposite direction. Just sayin.’

Restless, eager and downright offensive at times, the Sagittarius man or woman stays in his or her head, is usually highly ambitious, thrives off of adventure and absolutely hates to be placed under a label or in a box. After all, this fiercely loyal, yet jovial fire sign believes in leaving such things to material items and movers.

One thing is for sure, however; if you snag a Sag for real for real, we’re yours until you betray our trust. After that, you won’t see us again. Yes, our cut-off game is just that strong.

Ruled by the House of Philosophy, the quickest way to a Sag’s heart is by intellectually impressing them. But that’s just one way to woo this fire sign. Here are five more ways to land your Sag just in time for cuffing season.

1) Speak your mind!

A Sagittarius is known for his or her fierce bluntness. Why? Because we value truth over sparing someone’s feelings. With that being said, there is a way to say and do things, so soften the blow if you can, just don’t avoid the issue at hand. Either way, it is always best to speak your mind and come from a place of sincerity. Your Sag crush will respect you for saying how you feel and not holding back. Sagittariuses aren’t known for their patience, and they do not like to play “guess what I’m feeling.” In fact, that is the quickest way to lose their attention, because they will think you are either confused or on B.S.

2) Genuinely praise our achievements

Sagittariuses aren’t wooed by grand words or gestures, but when it comes to our personal and professional achievements, the best thing someone interested in us can do is acknowledge our work. We are a sign that is enthralled in personal growth and development, as we are constantly reflecting on our past actions in search of a better version of ourselves. Genuinely find something to compliment us on and we’ll be convinced that you care about our growth and expansion as well. Keyword: Genuinely. We can often smell B.S. a mile away.

3) Balance affection with independence

Sagittariuses are governed by the Centaur, a mythological creature with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse. It symbolizes our natural urge to roam and act as warriors, as well as our gentle, human nature. Think of the beast from Beauty and the Beast. While a Sagittarius craves adventure and romance, they are fiercely independent. If you are interested in pursuing a romantic relationship with this sign, it is critical that you balance time spent together with autonomy. In other words, have your own business! Personal space and freedom are everything to us, as we value self-sufficiency and independence. But don’t get it twisted. We are very capable of being in a relationship and will not be inconsistent in our actions when committed.

4) Provide emotional support

The Sagittarius man or woman is social by nature–some more than others, but rarely will you find a Sagittarius that just does not like people. The Sag’s jovial nature can sometimes land him or her in the company of wolves, or in less desirable predicaments. Be patient with your Sag, and provide lots of emotional support for the tough learning lessons of life. You don’t have to be a parent by any means, but everyone deserves a compassionate, loving supportive partner, and that’s what you’ll get from them in return. Sagittariuses enjoy connecting with people on just about any level, but truly value deep connections with those they love.

5) Be mentally stimulating

If you wish to land and keep a Sag, you must not be boring, surface level or uninteresting. If you’re boring, so Sags will also become bored with you. We do not wish to discuss the meaning of life 90% of the time, but we do want to be with someone who has some depth to their being.

Listen, locking down a Sagittarius takes work. We value our freedom and get bored very easily. But if you’re naturally interesting, honest, and genuine, you’ll have our hearts–at the very least as a friend–in no time.
