Just a few weeks after Janelle Monae came out as a pansexual woman, her rumored love interest, Tessa Thompson, has confirmed her own bisexuality, speaking on her relationship with the “PYNK” singer to Net-A-Porter.
“Janelle and I love each other deeply. We’re so close, we vibrate on the same frequency. If people want to speculate about what we are, it doesn’t bother me,” Thompson said.
When describing her own family, Thompson says their open-mindedness has allowed her to live in her truth.
“[In my family] you can be anything you want to be. I’m attracted to men and also to women. If I bring a woman home, [or] a man, we don’t even have to have the discussion,” she said.
“I want everyone else to have that freedom and support that I have from my loved ones,” she added. “But so many people don’t. So, do I have a responsibility to talk about that? Do I have a responsibility to say in a public space that this is my person?”
Monae opened up about her own sexuality to Rolling Stone, saying, “Being a queer Black woman in America, someone who has been in relationships with both men and women, I consider myself to be a free-ass mother*cker. Later, I read about pansexuality and was like, ‘Oh, these are things that I identify with, too.’ I’m open to learning more about who I am.”
