A prison letter written by Tupac reportedly explains why he cut ties with famed entertainer Madonna.

The letter, written to the “Like A Virgin” singer, is up for auction.

“For you to be seen with a black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardize your career,” he confessed in the letter dated Jan. 15, 1995. “If anything it would make you seem that much more open and exciting.”

The letter was obtained by TMZ. In it, the “How Do U Want It” rapper goes on to say that he never meant to hurt Madonna.

“But for me at least in my previous perception I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was. I never meant to hurt you.”

The rapper goes on to say that he’s grown significantly, and offers friendship to the music icon.

“In the time since, as u can see, I have grown both spiritually and mentally,” he wrote. “It no longer matters how I’m perceived. Please understand my previous position as that of a young man with limited experience with a extremely famous sex symbol. I offer my friendship once again this time much stronger and focused.”

It also appears that Tupac was attempting to warn Madonna with his words.

“If you are still interested I would like to further discuss this with you but some of it couldn’t wait. I felt compelled to tell you … just in case anything happened to me. Please be careful Madonna. Everyone is not as honorable as they seem. There are those whose hearts bleed with envy and evil. They would not hesitate to do you harm! Let my 5 bullets be proof of that!”

In an interview with Howard Stern in 2015, the pop star confirmed her romantic relationship with Tupac. She said she was introduced to the legendary rapper by Rosie Perez.

Fans can bid on the note starting July 19-28 at Gotta Have Rock and Roll. It is expected to sell for more than $100,000.
