The 2021 NAACP Image Awards executed its promise to highlight nothing but #BlackExcellence during the award show last night with key moments from Jazmine Sullivan, Eddie Murphy, and more.
The NAACP Image Awards definitely came through heavy with the heat this year. Though we may be “Zoomed out” with the overindulgence in digital interaction over the past year, the award show felt more inclusive for home viewers. The celebration of some of our community’s finest artists, actors, and creatives throughout the entire virtual experience was exceptionally executed and engaging. From the pre-show to the award recipient speeches to the lit after-party curated by DJ Cassidy, it was an evening well spent. During the televised event, Anthony Anderson kept us laughing and made us proud as he masterfully led us through the award ceremony.
In case you missed it, here are some of the best moments throughout the televised award show:
Jazmine Sullivan’s AMAZING vocals and stunning ‘fit during “Pick Up Your Feelings”:
The moving speech gave by Chadwick Boseman’s wife, Taylor Simone Ledyard on his behalf when accepting the award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture:
Maxwell’s dreamy recreation of Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder):
Eddie Murphy’s speech for receiving the Hall of Fame Award:
Additionally, we were inspired, in awe and enraptured by the pure elegance of Black women, per usual. The dope fashion on display during the Image Awards was simply amazing. Although this year’s festivities greatly differed from the traditions and event lineup of years past, we were still able to experience the excitement of witnessing beautifully curated red carpet looks from some of our faves.
