Since the departure of Trevor Noah last year, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show has been using a rotating host format. This week, from March 6, 2023 to March 9, 2023, the stand-up comedian, writer, and producer Marlon Wayans is hosting the show and his tenure is off to a hilarious start.

On his first night, Wayans tackled numerous hot topics of the moment including the CPAC convention and the debate over reparations in California, plus Memphis Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant's leave of absence for brandishing a gun on Instagram Live.

Beginning his monologue, Wayans explained to the live studio audience why he was selected to be a guest host.

“I know you’re asking yourself: How the f*** did I become the host? Well, they spun a wheel with all the Wayans’ name on it, and it landed on me,” he joked.

Morant, who offered an apology before deactivating all his social media accounts, said that his behavior was due to stress and Waynan has some thoughts to share on the situation.

"I'm sorry, but that n***a don't look stressed at all. Look at all that stress on his face, I've never seen somebody that stressed,” Wayans said. “How's that even an explanation? 'I pulled a gun out because I was stressed.' Is that like an emotional support gun? Who grabs a gun when they're stressed? N***a, you never heard of chamomile?"

In addition to his hosting duties on the Daily Show, Wayans recently released his first HBO stand-up special God Loves Me. Bringing his signature energy and physical brand of comedy, Wayans covers everything from his life, career, and his view on the aftermath of Will Smith's slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.
