“I received some criticism b/c I said Repubs supporting Trump -after his crimes & work w/ Russians – are unpatriotic. Yes I said it!” The 80-year-old congresswoman tweeted. “How can you know the enemy Russia is undermining our democracy & say & do nothing? If you don’t care, I do. We must impeach Putin’s president Trump!”
According to the Los Angeles Times, Waters blasted Republicans in Congress calling them “spineless, unpatriotic, intimidated,” during the California Democratic Party convention in February 2018. She also called Trump, “the most unworthy, untrustworthy, duplicitous human being this country has ever witnessed.”
Despite the Democratic party being divided on impeachment, Waters said there is a majority of support for removing the 45th president from office.
“Ninety percent of the calls and mail I'm receiving in my office support impeachment of Trump and so do I,” she added. “Dems divided. The impeachment resolution must start with & be taken up by the Judiciary Committee. Rep. Nadler is the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.”
The house representative cited former special counsel for the Department of Justice Robert Mueller’s report from his investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 presidential election to validate her cries for impeachment.
“Mueller kicked the impeachment ball to the Congress. The Constitution gives the responsibility to Congress to impeach an unfit president - "high crimes and misdemeanors." What more do we need? #impeach45,” Waters wrote.
The California representative then gave a brief description of how Russian President Vladimir Putin; the Kremlin, the Russian government; and Konstantin V. Kilimnik, a Russian/Ukranian political consultant, interfered with the American democracy.
Waters added, “Putin & the Kremlin are even now interfering w/ our election systems. They were proven to have undermined our 2016 elections & evidence shows they will do the same in 2020 --ALL in support of Trump. Trump won't criticize or stop them. Congress must stop them & #ImpeachTrump!”
“Trump's campaign chair gave polling data to Kilimnik who was tied to the Kremlin. Manafort, Don Jr, Kushner, & Flynn met w/ Russians during campaign,” she said in conclusion. “Collusion is obvious. Obstruction of justice is well defined in Mueller report. Trump said game over. No, the game has just begun!”
For the crimes committed, Waters hopes that impeachment will happen sooner than later.
