One of Fall 2017’s most promising new shows has unfortunately met its end, as ABC has cancelled The Mayor four episodes short of its season 1 finale. The Disney-owned network will air Modern Family re-runs in its time slot for the time being, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

There’s a chance fans of the series will still be able to catch new episodes, as ABC Studios will shop the comedy, about an idealistic rapper (Brandon Micheal Hall) who runs for mayor and wins, elsewhere. Hulu, a joint venture with Disney, reportedly is the front runner to pick up the series, but nothing has been set in stone as of yet.

Actress Yvette Nicole Brown had this to say about the cancellation:

The Mayor was paired with Black-ish on ABC’s Tuesday comedy lineup. Despite the strong lead-in, it opened to a 1.2 rating in the adults, 18-49 demographic. The overall live viewership has continued to slide, with its Nov. 14 installment registering 2.45 million total viewers airing opposite NBC smash-hit, This Is Us.
