Meek Mill is getting a new trial.
During a status hearing on Monday, Philadelphia city attorney announced that Mill’s conviction should be cleared and he should get a new trial, according to CBS Philly.
Judge Genece Brinkley agreed to the new trial but denied a request to release the rapper from prison.
In November, Mill received a two-to-four year prison sentence for violating his probation.
The Philadelphia native has received a ton of support since his incarceration and has prompted calls for prison reform.
He recently spoke with NBC’s Lester Holt and said that he wasn’t surprised that he ended up back in prison because of his 10-year probation sentence, but wants to help people of color who face what he’s facing.
“I think God put me in this position to…open up eyes for other young black men,” he said.
