Over a thousand art-loving New Yorkers danced the night away in heels at the MET.
It was a night to remember for this year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Young Members Party. More than 1,000 guests traversed the museum’s corridors way after closing hours to view Rei Kawakubo’s vintage Comme Des Garcon collections that account for over four decades of work.
The party was “hosted” by The Apollo Circle and attracted stylish uptown art lovers who wore a medley of bright colors and textured silhouettes, including ruffle dresses, fun hats and natural hairstyles. Saint Heron, Solange Knowles’ creative collective, selected music by Kindness, who played throwback Destiny’s Child anthems. Huge screens were set up to project surrealist videos and imagery by artist Jacolby Satterwhite. Along with the music and visuals, the sensory experience came together and had many attendees in awe. People literally just stared at the huge projections as they casually sipped a cocktail.
But the real spectacle was the fashion scene. Although many came dressed in gowns and bejeweled sparkly necklaces, only a few stood out. Nicole Lockhart, a luxury travel professional, attended this year’s event with a vintage hat passed down from her great aunt. The family heirloom stood out like a golden star in a sea full of New York’s black uniform.
