Chicago’s Whitney Young Magnet High School has announced it will be naming a new facility in honor of our forever first lady, Michelle Obama.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports Obama’s alma mater will name its $4.3 million athletic complex after the author, making it Chicago’s first public facility dedicated to an Obama.

“We’re really excited about this,” Whitney Young Principal Joyce Kenner said. “This is about the kids and benefiting our school community and the public.”

Kenner told the newspaper the plans were discussed with Obama when she visited the school last year just before embarking on her Becoming book tour.

“She didn’t say very much, but she seemed very excited that we would consider doing that. And since it’s for the community, she said she was happy to be part of it,” Kenner added.

Obama was never an athlete, but she did lead the “Let’s Move!” national fitness campaign during the family’s two terms in the White House.

“She understands the importance of exercise,” Kenner said. “It’s all about keeping students fit. She embodies that spirit of athleticism.”

Obama will begin the second leg of her book tour next week, beginning in St. Paul, Minnesota, and wrapping up in Nashville, Tennessee. See the full list of dates below.
