Michelle Williams landed the role of a lifetime when she signed on to play the legendary Diana Ross on new BET drama American Soul. In an interview about the series, the Destiny’s Child songstress shared what it was like to play the leading lady of the Supremes.

“It is really just a humbling experience to play such a legendary icon. I don’t think I move as gracefully as she does in real life, but I can really do it in this role,” Williams said.

The show, based on the rise of Soul Train and its creator, Don Cornelius, will feature several of today’s biggest stars playing the icons who helped put the influential music program on the map.

American Soul is definitely bringing America in on what soul music was all about," Williams continued, adding, "and who was the pioneer and the trailblazer into getting it onto our TVs every single day, and that is Don Cornelius."
