A Massachusetts mom is outraged after staff at a home for emotionally and behaviorally challenged children shaved her 7-year-old daughter’s hair.

Now, the child is nearly bald and program facilitators at the Little Heroes Home claim they were within their rights to cut the girl’s hair.

“Decisions regarding grooming are based on a variety of factors, including hygiene,” the Dracut, Mass., group home said in a statement obtained by CBS Boston. “A review of the circumstances is underway to determine what occurred and, if necessary, appropriate action will be taken.”

“There was no hygenical [sic] reason to shave my child’s head. No lice, no bed bugs, no rasta locks,” the child’s mother, Denise Robinson, told the news station.

She now plans to remove her daughter from the home.
