A good movie is a good thing. June brings us the oh-so-fine Idris Elba starring in another war-god flick, Prometheus. Check out the musical Rock of Ages, starring Mary J. Blige and Tom Cruise.  On the indie front, Beasts of the Southern Wild is an apocalyptic, futuristic, folk magic-filled story set in a remote Louisiana community surrounded by water. It received a standing ovation at the Sundance Film Festival and stars little newcomer Quvenzhané Wallis, who plays 6-year-old Hushpuppy. And though it sounds silly, we’re hedging our bets on Anthony Mackie’s inspiring talents in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. G.I.  Joe 2: Retaliation, starring Dwayne Johnson, will be entertaining, if nothing else. And don’t sleep on kiddie flicks: Jada Pinkett Smith stars in Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted with Chris Rock, Cedric the Entertainer and Ben Stiller.

JULY We’re pretty sure that midsummer’s best-grossing flick will be the last installment of the cinematically powerful Batman series, The Dark Knight Rises, starring Morgan Freeman opposite a brooding Christian Bale, ass kicking Liam Neeson and hottie Daniel Sunjata. If that doesn’t float your boat, there’s always The Amazing Spider-Man. (Yes, they made another one.) But the even better news is that if you’re in Orlando, you can see the movie and check out the newly refurbished Spider-Man ride at Universal Studios. If you love rides, we promise you’ll lurve this supersized 3-D experience.

AUGUST As Labor Day approaches, there’s nothing better than a plain-old save-the-world-type flick, which we find in The Bourne Legacy. Only this time, Jeremy Renner (who starred opposite Anthony Mackie in 2008’s acclaimed The Hurt Locker) takes on the spot usually reserved for Matt Damon. Another great date movie is the remake of Total Recall. Where else can you see Kate Beckinsale and Bokeem Woodbine in the same flick? And of course, our dearly departed Whitney Houston will shine in the remake of Sparkle, out August 17.
