We often talk about the "achievement gap,"  but don't often get to observe how that plays out in the educational lives of young people outside of our own daily lives. A new documentary gives viewers the opportunity to watch two middle-class African-American boys from Brooklyn grow from kindergarten to high school graduation in an elite Manhattan prep school setting, raising critical questions about education and access for Black males all along the way.

American Promise opens in select theaters this Friday, October 18th. Click here for showtimes and locations and stay tuned to EBONY.com for more info on this important film.
